This was built around at the end of the last century as an entry on a Matilda Challenge organized among the clubs around back then. At that time, I was one of the few subversives in the area so I thought I'd go for it just because. I competed against 15 Matildas built by some of the best in Colorado Springs. I placed third! The tank went on to win Best Airfix and First in it's category at the Gathering, a long running IPMS contest that used to take place in Ogden Utah.
The kit was classic Airfix. There was filing and sanding. It's OK, tho. I'm a modeler, not a box shaker! I borrowed a Matilda reference book from a pal and hand painted markings with VRush Pens from a tank shown in the book. I also drilled out the head lights and put in MV Lenses. Weathering was lots of fun! The more light layers I put on, the better it looked!
